Charlie Cordero, Colombian photographer joins our Art4HD program


Charlie Cordero is a 31-year-old documentary photographer based in Colombia. He has studied Photojournalism at the ERAM audiovisual and multimedia school (University of Girona) in Girona, Spain and a Masters in Editorial Photography and Photojournalism at the TAI School of Arts and Entertainment (Rey Juan Carlos University) in Madrid, Spain.

The recurring themes in his work are: human rights, environment, migration, gender ideology, memory and reconciliation and social justice.

He currently works as a teacher of the Social Communication and Journalism program at the Universidad del Norte, Universidad Autonoma del Caribe and Sergio Arboleda University in Barranquilla, Colombia.  His work has been published in national and international media: National Geographic, New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, Courier International, GEO and LFI. Among others.


Among his recognitions are part of the New York Times Portfolio review in 2017 and 2019; Winner of the first position of the POY LATAM 2019 in the category “Young people express themselves”; Second prize in the category migrations and human trafficking of POY LATAM 2017; National Week-Argos Journalism Award Winner, category best graphic report (2016); Winner Rodrigo Lara Labor’s National Journalism Award multimedia category (2016); Winner 42 Hall of Photographic Art of the UPB (2015); Winner of the Madrid Unsuspected Contest, PHOTOESPAÑA (2015); Participant of the collective exhibition «Without Borders» French Alliance Madrid (2015), among others.

I became aware of Charlie’s work through Instagram (@charliecordero) and through our associate in Colombia Leyla Mieles. I contacted him and after two years, he is now associated with Factor-H and will be going to visit the families we support and help us document and visualize their lives, dreams, and struggles.
